Dr Elaine Huang is the Senior Consultant Ophthalmologist at Eye Max Centre.
Dr Huang is experienced in general ophthalmology as well as in complex surgery involving the retina. Her sub-specialties include managing vitreo-retinal conditions such as retinal detachment, floaters, and selective treatment of floaters with laser vitreolysis, macular disorders such as epiretinal membrane and macular hole surgery, diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration (AMD), myopia, and trauma-related conditions.
Dr Huang was formerly an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the Singapore National Eye Centre (SNEC) and the Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School. She received her Bachelor of Medicine and a Bachelor of Surgery from the National University of Singapore (NUS) in 2002.
She then attained a Master of Medicine (MMed) in Ophthalmology from NUS and a fellowship from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (FRCS). She was also a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore (FAMS) and received the prestigious Gold Medal for being one of the top candidates in the ophthalmology specialist exit examinations.
At SNEC, she completed her advanced subspecialty training fellowship in surgical and medical retina. She was also a Clinical Lecturer at SNEC and NUS, as well as an examiner for the ophthalmology specialist exams.
Dr Huang has received numerous honours for her commitment to patient care, academic and scientific research excellence. She received the SingHealth Junior Doctor Award (2007) and the SingHealth Excellent Service Silver Award (2013). She also received the Outstanding Faculty Award at the SingHealth Residency RISE Awards (2014).
Dr Huang’s passion in research has earned her the First Prize in Research at the 3rd Research Day at The Eye Institute, Tan Tock Seng Hospital (2007). She was also one of the top presenters at the Best Systematic Review (Surgery) at the 16th Annual Scientific Meeting Evidence-Based Medicine Seminar (2007) held at the Singapore General Hospital.
Macular and vitreoretinal abnormalities, as well as cataracts, vascular and inflammatory eye illnesses, are among her research interests. She has published numerous papers in national and international journals and has given presentations at international conferences on topics ranging from cataract surgery to vitreoretinal diseases. She has also spoken at Singapore’s annual nationwide AMD Awareness Week.
A happy wife and mother of 3 lovely children, Dr Huang is a supporter of non-profit voluntary health services and has participated in countless public and nursing home eye screenings. She is passionate about training new doctors and optometrists, and strives to instil in her colleagues an attitude of life-long learning.
